|Abstract:||An archaeological evaluation was carried out at Sómastađagerđi and Hraun in Reyđarfjörđur on behalf of Alcoa Primary Metals. This was done in advance of construction, and represents the first stage of a process of investigation required to meet the conditions of development constraints imposed by the Archaeological Heritage Agency of Iceland. |

Land at Sómastađagerđi and Hraun, Reyđarfjörđur:
An Archaeological Evaluation [2.96 MB]
Targeted trenching of two farm-mound sites revealed limited archaeological remains, mainly from the late 19th-20th centuries although at Sómastađgerđi possible Viking Age or high Middle Ages activity was detected. In addition trenching within the homefield of Sómastađagerđi revealed archaeological depositis at a single location. Further trenching close to the shoreline did not reveal additional sites. Further investigation of both farm mounds was seen necessary.
