Þórutóftir á Laugafellsöræfum
: Fornleifarannsókn 2005
[1.46 MB] An erosion face was cleaned and recorded in Þórutóftir, northeast of Hofsjökull glacier. The site has been the subject of all sorts of oral histories f.ex. about the temporary settlement of people from Eyjafjörður at the time of Black Death in the 15th century. Previosly charcoal and ash had been noted in the erosion. However no substantial cultural layers were seen in the section. Þórutóftir is now thought to be a temporary camping site at most, judging by a cut seen under the 1477 AD tephra. |
