An Overview of NABO’s Projects

Over more than 30 years the NABO community have been involved in many research projects mainly across the North Atlantic, and also the Caribbean. We are keen to share our activities with fellow researchers, funders and the public who contribute invaluable help enabling us to study the cultures and environment of this fascinating part of the world. Details of many of these projects are available from this page. We also encourage people to enter details of their own projects on the NABO Project Management System (NABO PMS). This has existed for over 15 years and contains details of over 140 locations and projects. The new NABO website will make updating existing records and adding new ones much more straightforward. We will be contacting individuals, but if have research that you would like including on our website, please get in touch and we will help you to do this. The best way to do this is to email the site editor Anthony Newton (anthony.newton@ed.ac.uk).

The NABO Project Management System was originally created in 2008 by David Bruce at the School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh and is based on the Geographical Information Projects Registry (GIPR) with funding from the National Science Foundation. As part of his MSc in GIS (2007-2008) he reviewed and enhanced the already existing GIPR system to create a self-sustaining user-driven service. The purpose of the GIPR is to provide a service via which members of the Scottish GI community and beyond can share knowledge about their projects and initiatives and create new partnerships. Many thanks to David for all his work in getting the NABO PMS started.

The most recent update of the NABO PMS in 2022-24, again funded by the National Science Foundation, was carried out by Louis Kinnear with the help of Chris Hill and Annabel Treshansky, as part of the wider redevelopment of the NABO website.

The NABO PMS is hosted by the School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh.
