Our multi-disciplinary research team seeks a postdoc who is interested in highly collaborative, convergence science. This one-year postdoctoral position will be housed in the Water and Environmental Research Center (WERC) at University of Alaska Fairbanks. The project includes archaeology, iso- and bio-geochemistry, fisheries, marine science, marine mammal science, and toxicology. The collaborative project is dually supported by NSF Polar Program’s Arctic Systems Science and Arctic Social Science programs; Mercury dynamics from the Holocene to the Anthropocene: Tracking Aleutian mercury in ocean species important to Native Alaskan diets.
The post-doctoral position will focus on analyses and publications of stable isotopes, both bulk and compound-specific. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with an interdisciplinary team, a background in isotope ecology (including the use of compound specific amino acid analyses), preferably with knowledge of historical ecology, paleoecology, and/or archaeology. Individuals with a strong background in one discipline with a desire to become more interdisciplinary are welcome to contact us. We seek an individual with excellent interpersonal communication skills, who is intrinsically motivated, dynamic, and able to function in a highly collaborative research environment where interdisciplinary research development and dissemination of new information to community and science audiences are key goals. Leadership in stable isotope analyses and subsequent first-author manuscripts and laboratory skills are expected and required.
Candidates must be willing to reside in Fairbanks, Alaska for the duration of their position.
