RSS Feed (Really Simple Syndication)

What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) provides an easy and efficient method of keeping up to date with the information you want from a website. Rather than using the traditional means of web browsing, clicking through multiple sites, RSS allows the user to amalgamate multiple sources of information in one single location.

RSS allows to user to view new content from any RSS enabled site. You can get the latest headlines and articles (or even audio files, photographs or video) in one place, as soon as they are published, without having to remember to visit each site every day.

RSS simply provides a webpage in a slightly different format which can be read by computers rather than by people. This enables the computer to do all the hard work in bringing you new information which is of interest to you!

How can I use RSS?

Users of RSS generally do so via a "News Reader." A News Reader is a specialist piece of software which checks RSS feeds for new information.

Once you have chosen a News Reader you can choose which feed you wish to subscribe to. You will find these feeds on the right hand site of the page demarked by this symbol . Click on the hyperlink and it will take you to the RSS feed where you can subscribe. This can be achieved in various ways, including dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your news reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader.

Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, automatically check for RSS feeds for you when you visit a website, and display an icon when they find one. You will find the icon in your address bar on this site
